The Agri Horticultural Society of India located at Alipore Road, Kolkata holds a flower show every year called the Annual Flower Show. It is generally held for three days on the first half of February. The dates of the show are given on the official website, which is http://www.agrihorticultureindia.com/. According to the official website, it is the World’s oldest Flower Show, being held from 1928 onwards (barring 1940). A huge variety of rare and exotic flowers are displayed during the show. A competition is also held among the different participants of the shows and prizes are given. Visitors can even buy these unique flowering plants and seeds in order to decorate their home. Apart from flowers, ornamental leaves. cactus, fertilizers and flower pots are also displayed and sold.
The flower show is held on a large open ground and witnesses a huge number of visitors. Some of the flowers that are displayed are chrysanthemum, cineraria, marigold, orchids, verbena, aster, dahlia, candytuft, sunflowers, petunia, antirrhinum, phlox, rose etc. I was completely awestruck with the sheer variety and beauty of flowers. Also, I have seen that flowers which have lost their freshness after staying in hot sun all day are replaced by new ones. Some of the pictures that I have taken during my visit are given below –
