Mahakal temple is located at a small hilltop behind the Chowrasta Mall and encircled by the Mall road in Darjeeling. A small road goes to the top, vehicles are not allowed there and it is a 15 min steep uphill walk from the bottom. It is visited by a large number of tourists, as it is very centrally located. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Shiva and was built in 1782 by Lama Dorjey Rinzing. One can witness a combination of both Hindu and Buddhist religions there. The entire temple is very beautiful as it is decorated by colourful Tibetan flags of various colours. There are several small temples inside where you can offer your prayers and the priests will give their blessings. You can also spot a few monkeys there. If you are visiting Darjeeling and are near to the mall road, you should visit it as you will have a good experience there. Some of the pictures that I have taken during my visit are given below –
