The backwaters in Alleppey or Alappuzha are famous for their scenic beauty throughout the world and are visited by tourists each year. I visited the backwaters on March of this year for the purpose of doing landscape photography. For this trip, I decided to choose the ferries run by Kerala State Water Transport Department Boat Jetty, as they gave me the flexibility to get down anywhere I want. They run from 5:30 am in the morning to 9:30 pm in the night, so they are available all the time and are super cheap. These boats pass through many villages, rivers, backwaters and narrow canals. They stop at every jetty on the way to pick and drop passengers. One can see and photograph many scenic spots on the way plus one can learn a lot about the culture and lifestyle of people living there. Some of the important towns that one can visit through these boats are Kottayam, Krishnapuram, Nedumudy, Kollam etc.
Spots for Landscape photography
There are several spots near Alleppey where one can do photography like Punnamada finishing point, Mangalasserry jetty, Nedumudy, Krishnapuram. All you have to do is keep an eye for the points that would make good photographs. For more detailed information on how to navigate around the backwaters, visit my other blog on Alleppey backwaters sightseeing. Some of the pictures that I have taken during my photo tour are given below
