Milan Mela is a large open ground located in Kolkata, opposite to the Science city. It is mainly used as a exhibition centre and the fairs are conducted to promote trade and industry, art and culture, commerce and business opportunities for West Bengal. Also, these fairs give exposure and opportunity to the local and talented artists living in the villages. I visited the Handicraft fair (also known as hasta shilpa mela) at Milan Mela in 2016 and was mesmerized by the rich culture and heritage of West Bengal. One can buy and witness a huge collection terracotta products, wooden handicrafts, paintings, ornaments, handmade toys, clothing accessories, handicraft products, bamboo and cane products, jute bags, pottery items etc. A lot of local artisans and weavers come from rural parts of Bengal in order to showcase their product. This year it is held at Eco park from 19th December, 2018 to 9 January, 2019. Some of the pictures that I have taken during my visit are given below –
