College street is located in central Kolkata and derives its name due to the presence of many colleges and book stores in that area. It can be easily reached by bus, metro or taxi. I have visited this street few times during my stay in Kolkata, where I did street photography in different streets. The street is approximately 1.5 km long and there are numerous small and big book stores, shops and stalls along its way. One can also find old, rare books at throwaway prices at these shops. This particular street is also a hotbed for photography enthusiasts as during Sundays, photo walks are conducted by various organizations in this street. The famous Indian coffee house also has a branch in this street and has been visited by eminent Bengali personalities like Satyajit Ray, Amartya Sen, Mrinal Sen, Ritwik Ghatak, Aparna Sen etc. This street has a vintage look to it as most of the shops in that area are very old, also the Calcutta tram also by this road, which further adds to the nostalgia and reminds people of the bygone era. On Sundays, photowalks are sometimes conducted by several groups operating in the city. For photography lovers, apart from old, rustic book shops the street also offers a wide variety of subjects in the field of street photography, which you can see in my pictures below –
